On-assessment of the immune quality of sow colostrum.
Proceedings of the 19th IPVS Congress, Copenhagen, Denmark, 2006 - Volume 1:299
The objective of this study was to assess the immune quality of sow colostrum, using a refractometer and colostrometer, which can be used directly in the farm, along with a traditional ELISA test carried out in a laboratory. Eighty-four blood samples were collected in order to define the IgG levels 4 weeks before farrowing. A small amount of colostrums was collected 25 minutes after farrowing. Analyses were carried out with the methods previously mentioned and the results of each method were compared to each other. The colostrometer and refractometer did not appear to be the ridht tools for the measurement of colostral immunity.
