A cost-benefit analysis of Salmonella-control strategies in Danish pork production.
Preventive Veterinary Medicine, 2006, Volume 77, Nº1-2, 1-14
The objective of this cost-benefit analysis was to investigate several Salmonella control strategies in the Danish pig production system. The four control approaches studied included hot-water decontamination, sanitary slaughter, home-mixed feed and acidified feed. The data used in this analysis mostly came from the Danish Meat Association (DMA) and the Danish Zoonosis Centre. Some information was also provided by experts in the field. This study showed that hot-water decontamination was the only socio-economically profitable control strategy.
