Characterization of conventional and plasmacytoid dendritic cells in swine secondary lymphoid organs and blood.
Veterinary Immunology and Immunopathology, 2006, Volume 114, Nº3-4, 224-237
The aim of this study was to characterize dendritic cells in tonsil, spleen and non-subcutaneous lymph nodes and to define their production of cytokines. Blood samples were collected from pigs selected for the study, before they were euthanised. Tissue samples were then collected. Dendritic cells were identified thanks to immunofluorescence and cytokines were detected by use of a sandwich ELISA test. The results confirmed the presence of both conventional and plasmacytoid dendritic cells in secondary lymphoid organs and also showed that most of these cells were immature.
