Toll-like receptor 2 and 9 are expressed and functional in gut-associated lymphoid tissues of presuckling newborn swine.
Veterinary Research, 2006, Volume 37, Nº6, 791-812
The objective of this study was to confirm the expression and functionality of toll-like receptors 2 and 9 (TLR2 and TLR9) in gut-associated lymphoid tissues (GALT) of newborn piglets. Tissue samples were collected on presuckling newborn piglets and analysed. TLR2 and TLR9 were quantified by use of RT-PCR and their distribution in mesenteric lymph nodes and (MLN) and ileal Peyer Patches (Pps) was assessed by use of immunohistochemistry. The results indicated that both TLR2 and TLR9 could help the GALT triggering an immune response, thus conferring newborn piglets some protection against bacterial infections.
