Climatic effects on productive traits in livestock.
Veterinary Research Communications, 2006, Volume 30, Suppl. 1, 75-81
This paper is an overview of the consequences climate can have on animal production (cattle, pigs and poultry), particularly increases in heat and humidity levels. Increased temperatures and high humidity levels appeared to have a serious impact on pig reproductive functions and a significant effect on pig meat production (due to a decrease in food intake, in milk production, etc.). Studies should be conducted in this area in order to provide farmers with recommendations about pig herd management in hot periods.
