Le bien-être animal, un facteur d'évolution des systèmes de production porcine?
Bulletin de l'Académie Vétérinaire de France, 2006, Volume 159, Nº3, 213-217
New regulations and laws introduced the notion of animal welfare in the management of pig production systems. However, taking this into account is not always easy as this results in significant investments for pig producers, modification of the structure and organisation of pig farms, etc. resulting in an increase in production costs and hence, in pig-derived products. Consumers do not seem ready to pay for an improved production system. Nevertheless, animal welfare also results in higher quality products and improved zootechnic performances, showing that this new element of pig production should not be discarded but further studied and improved.
