Applicazione di un protocollo per la diagnosi di PMWS (Application of a protocol for PMWS diagnosis).
Società Italiana di Patologia ed Allevamento dei Suini - Proceedings, 2007, 189-202
The superficial inguinal lymph nodes, the tracheobronchial lymph nodes, the ileum, the tonsils and the lungs of 3-5 animals were collected in each of 21 Italian swine herds included in this study. These PCV2 target tissues were investigated for the presence of PCV2 and PCV2-associated lesions. The diagnosis of PMWS was established when both PCV2 and PMWS-specific lesions (lymphocyte depletion in lymphoid tissues and interstitial pneumonia) were observed. A total of 17 herds were found affected by PMWS, 11 of which were also affected by PRRS. The results of this study showed that lymphoid tissues were more indicative for the diagnosis of PMWS than lungs and that diagnosis at the herd level was more reliable than diagnosis at the single animal level.
