GRAU-ROMA L, SEGALES J
Detection of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus, porcine circovirus type 2, swine influenza virus and Aujeszky's disease virus in cases of porcine proliferative and necrotizing pneumonia (PNP) in Spain.
Veterinary Microbiology, 2007, Volume 119, Nº2-4, 144-151
The presence of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2), swine influenza virus (SIV) and Aujeszky's disease virus (ADV) was investigated in 74 cases of porcine proliferative and necrotizing pneumonia (PNP) from Spanish herds. The prevalence of PCV2 was particularly high since PCV2 was detected in 85.1% of PNP cases, followed by PRRSV with 44.6%. In addition, while PCV2 was the only pathogen found in 39.1% of the cases, PRRSV was the only pathogen detected in only 4.1% of the cases. These results clearly indicate a major role of PCV2 in the pathogenesis of PNP in Spain and probably in Europe, by contrast to PNP cases in North America where PRRSV is a key component of PNP.
