Proliferative response of T- and B-lymphocytes in pigs vaccinated with modified live and killed PRRSV vaccines followed by challenge with PRRSV
Proceedings of the 5th International Symposium on Emerging and Re-emerging Pig Diseases, 2007, 157
The main objective of this study was to investigate the cell mediated immune responses (CMI) of a modified live (MLV) and a killed (KV) PPRSV vaccines, used either alone or in combination. Thirty pigs, coming from a PRRSV-free farm, were selected for the study and assigned to 6 groups. Pigs from Group 1 were not vaccinated nor challenged, pigs from Group 2 were not vaccinated but challenged, pigs from Group 3 received a KV vaccine, pigs from Group 4 received an MLV vaccine, pigs from Group 5 received an MLV vaccine and then a KV vaccine, while pigs from Group 6 received first a KV vaccine and then an MLV vaccine. All pigs (except those from Group 1) were challenged with a moderate to highly virulent PRRSV isolate. The CMI response was determined with a lymphocyte proliferation assay. The results showed that the proliferative response of T and B lymphocytes was significantly increased in pigs that had received both vaccines in combination.
