La quarantaine en élevage porcin (The quarantine in swine herds)
Le Nouveau Praticien Vétérinaire, 2007, 53-55
In this paper, the authors review the use of a quarantine in swine herds. This is the place where newly arrived gilts have to stay for 7 to 10 days, before integrating the herd. It usually consists in 2 steps: observation and adaptation. During the observation phase, the gilts should not be in contact with any of the pathogens present in the herd. This phase will allow the farmer to observe the animals and assess their health state. The adaptation phase consists in the vaccination of the gilts, in their progressive contamination and in a preparation for artificial insemination. The authors here provide detailed information regarding this phase of swine production.
