Under the theme ‘change is our opportunity’ a new series of articles will introduce the first ileitis vaccine for prevention and control of porcine proliferative enteropathy.
We will look to field study results from around Europe where vaccination has been used to fight ileitis, but first let us reflect upon food production and its evolution over the last 50 years: a major change for EU producers will be the growth promoter ban taking effect on 1 January 2006.
Those who are innovative can cope as exemplified by the Danes in part 1; subsequent articles will consider the economic consequences and lessons to be learnt from those countries already producing without growth promoters.
