The Meidam is the world’s newest GGP purebred super prolific dam line breed and is exclusive to ACMC.
The Meidam super-prolific dam line sire can be used in multiplication under a special licence agreement to produce parent females. This special licence allows the breeder to mate the Meidam boar to dam line Large White type sows, thus producing a more prolific and durable commercial parent sow with enhanced mothering ability when compared to other breed crosses.
The Meidam boar is only available through ACMC's International A.I. Stud in the UK or through a special "Breeder's Licence Agreement (†)", which enables purebred production of Meidam great grandparent (GGP) and grandparent (GP) stocks.
Genetic change within the Meishan genes over the last 20 years has been outstanding as the breed has undergone intensive selection for carcass traits through measuring individual feed intake along with ultrasound carcass scanning. This intense carcass selection has not impaired litter size selection as the Meidam has a 30% higher heritability for numbers born when compared to conventional breeds such as the Large White and Landrace.
Because of the breed's superiority as a dam line sire he is being used extensively to produce parent females in many commercial programmes, but unlike other breeds he is exclusive to ACMC.
