Nedap Velos heat detection
Nedap Velos alerts you precisely when a pig is on heat. Velos identifies when a sow visits the boar, and also monitors the progress of the visit. The system records the sow’s conduct automatically and whether she is on heat. In that event, the sow is marked directly. Nedap Velos then also ensures the animal is separated. |
Velos Heat Detection is focused
- Detects sows on heat.
- Immediately reports heat to the pig breeder.
- Directly marks sows that are on heat, so they are easily recognizable in the group.
- Separates these sows from the group using the Separation Unit.
|
Velos Heat Detection is productive
- The earlier heat is detected, the more effi cient the production.
- Sows that are not gestating and therefore come on heat again, are not
productive and must be separated from the group in order to be inseminated.
- Manually searching for sows on heat is less accurate.
- Finding sows on heat is also very time consuming.
|
Velos Heat Detection is ingenious
- The sow visits the boar via a ‘sniffing hole’.
- Comparing the monitored duration and time of the visit
with ‘normal conduct’ aids in identifying a sow on heat.
- The Heat Detection Unit is a complete set-up that can
be placed directly next to the boar pen

Accurate detection
The more accurately it can
be determined whether a sow
is on heat, the more efficient the operational management. The adjacent chart shows that
it boils down to the moment
of insemination. Nedap Velos alerts you on time to when
a sow requires insemination. Without you having to monitor this yourself. Based on this information, you can organise the different tasks. |
