M+Pac vaccine for pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae M+Pac vaccine for pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae

General Information
M+Pac vaccine for pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae Mycoplasma pneumonia in swine (MPS) or enzootic pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae appears to be one of the primary pathogens causing Porcine Respiratory Disease Compex (PRDC). It is probably the most economically significant disease-associated condition in modern swine production. Losses are generally associated with a complex interaction between mycoplasma infections, bacterial infections, and poor management and environmental conditions.

MPS occurs worldwide. It generally appears as a chronic, clinically mild, infectious pneumonia. It is characterized by its ability to become endemic in a herd and produce a persistent dry, hacking cough, reduced growth rate, sporadic flare-ups of overt respiratory distress and a high incidence of lung lesions at slaughter.

MPS has been shown to predispose swine to pneumonia caused by Pasteurella multocida and Actinobaccillus (Haemophilus) pleuropneumoniae. Virtually all naturally occurring cases of MPS are mixed infections involving mycoplasma, bacteria, viruses, or parasites. Onset of the disease is generally gradual with the principal clinical sign of a chronic nonproductive cough. Morbidity is generally high but in the absence of secondary bacterial infection, mortality remains low. Animals infected with secondary bacterial invaders may experience inappetence, labored breathing or “thumping”, increased coughing, and elevated temperatures. MPS pigs do not appear clinically ill but do exhibit signs of unthriftiness, unevenness, reduced growth rates, and stunting.

Indications
For use as an aid in the prevention of pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae infection in swine. Dosage and Route of Administration Using aseptic technique, inject 1 ml dose SQ or IM at 7-to-10 days of age or older. Revaccinate with 1 ml 2 weeks after initial vaccination. Revaccinate with a single 1 ml dose annually.

Caution
For veterinary use only. Store at 2º-7ºC (35º-45ºF). Do not freeze. Use entire contents when first opened. Do not vaccinate within 60 days before slaughter. Transient local reaction may occur at the injection site. If allergic response occurs, administer epinephrine.

Preservatives
Ampicillin, Gentamicin, and Thimerosal.

Warning
Extreme caution should be used when injecting any oil emulsion vaccine to avoid injecting your own finger or hand. Accidental injection can cause serious local reaction. Contact a physician immediately if accidental injection occurs.
