Description
PRV/Marker Gold-MaxiVac FLU is an adjuvanted combination vaccine for the immunization of healthy swine against pseudorabies (Aujeszky’s disease) and swine influenza. Specific genetic modifications have been engineered into the modified live pseudorabies virus to optimize safety and efficacy, and to allow serologic differentiation based on either gI or gX deletions. An inactivated, highly immunogenic type A, subtype H1N1 swine influenza virus isolate is also included in the vaccine.
Indication
For the immunization of healthy pigs of weaning age or older against pseudorabies (including the respiratory form of the disease) and swine influenza.
Dosage and Administration
For use in swine only. Shake the adjuvanted MaxiVac-FLU fraction and aseptically rehydrate the lyophilized PRV/Marker Gold fraction. Administer 2 ml intramuscularly. Pigs nursing non-immune dams may be safely and effectively vaccinated at weaning. Pigs nursing immune dams should be vaccinated when maternal antibody levels will allow active immunization. For primary immunization, pigs should be revaccinated with a second dose of swine influenza vaccine (MaxiVac-FLU) in 3-4 weeks. Sows may be safely vaccinated at any stage of pregnancy. The swine influenza fraction has been shown to provide immunity for at least three months following vaccination.
Caution
Do not vaccinate within 21 days of slaughter. Store at 35°–45°F (2°–7°C). Use entire contents without delay after rehydration. Burn containers and all unused contents. Contains gentamicin and thimerosal as preservatives. Anaphylactoid reactions may occur. Antidote: Epinephrine.
Note
Vaccination with PRV/Marker Gold-MaxiVac FLU will yield seropositive results in nondifferentiating SN, ELISA and latex agglutination tests. Distribution is limited to individuals designated by authorized officials, under such conditions as these authorities may require. MaxiVac-FLU is the first swine influenza vaccine licensed for use in the United States. As a result, frequency of revaccination necessary to maintain herd immunity has not been determined. Controlled studies have been initiated to develop information regarding duration of immunity following primary immunization with MaxiVac-FLU. In the meantime, it is recommended that animals retained for breeding be revaccinated semi-annually.
