Print This Page Royal Smithfield Christmas Fair Cancelled
UK - The 2007 Royal Smithfield Christmas Fair has been cancelled due to foot-and-mouth disease.
Following a meeting of the Royal Smithfield Club and the Royal Bath & West of England Society on Monday both organisations said they were deeply saddened to announce the cancellation, which they said was due to the ‘unfortunate release of the FMD virus.’
In a statement they said the situation had been carefully monitored since August 3 when the disease was first confirmed but the position had now become untenable, as licensing arrangements were unavailable – and no forecast could be given.
They added that the fact very good levels of livestock entries had been received by the Royal Smithfield Club had made the decision especially hard.
