The Fall-out - How Was it Handled in Scotland?

UK - NFU Scotland is asking its members for views on the Scottish Government’s response to the foot and mouth outbreak in Surrey earlier this year.

NFU Scotland is asking its members for views on the Scottish Government’s response to the foot and mouth outbreak in Surrey earlier this year.

Scotland’s Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs Richard Lochhead has commissioned former UK Chief Vet Jim Scudamore to review Scotland’s response to the release of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) from the laboratories at Pirbright in Surrey. NFUS is meeting the review team in the New Year, but in the meantime written comments have been requested and the Union is looking for its members’ views.

As well as examining Scotland’s handling of the outbreak, the review will identify lessons for the future, particularly in terms of reducing the risk to Scotland and the associated economic disruption.

A copy of the NFUS consultation document is available by calling 0131 472 4000 or can be downloaded at from the NFUS website at: http://www.nfus.org.uk/uploadedfiles/Response_to_FMD.pdf
