FMD Breaks Out in Zambia
25 November 2010ZAMBIA - The Zambian veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of foot and mouth disease in cattle.
The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received an immediate notification on 24 November.
A total of 2920 animals were found susceptible to the disease, out of which 72 cases were identified.
The main sources of the outbreak are:
- Introduction of new live animals
- Illegal movement of animals
- Contact with infected animal(s) at grazing/watering
