well i have three pigs that weigh about 200 and we usually buthcher them around 230 or so, and we suspect they have worms they are about 6 months old, i give them a big selection of feed consisting of corn husks corn stalks basically every part of the corn stalk and i pick apples froma n abandonned orchered and they always have regular hog feed so i was wondering if it was worms or if it was that they were just slow growers but it couldn't be that because there brothers and sisters went about a month ago and they were the same litter??? i recently found a grub in the hog feed would this have anything to do with. p.s. and wat are some good dewormers for pigs this pig

yes unhealty pigs will go slower to wieght than a healthy one ...i use ivomec to worm all my pigs regardless of size i really like it. also old timers here feed a little bit of coal it really works...just read what dewormer you choose carefully so you can make sure it gets out of there system b4 you slaughter
good luck |

I think a pig that is jabbed with Ivomec can not be slaughter for a mouth, so if I were you I would find one with a shorter withdrawal period ie panacur? As for coal as a dewormer????????? I would have to question that??

Maybe one day I'll try it Kyfarmer, if I ever go back to pigs. I never rule anything out, only you need coal to hand, and woods what I used to use. Does that work?

Coal is good for a multitude of remedies in us and in the animal world. Yes it is an old timers recipe but back when technology was not as good as it is today that is all there was, so prevention was better than cure, and if it could be cured then the old folk used older remedies than that are used today! The ideas of feeding are not that far out of date. Such things as using a beer to quieten a sow instead of using stresnil....comes to mind. some people would say what a waste, but if that is all there was then you woulduse it regardless. If it works then continue to use it, the out come is still the same..
