Welcome to this weeks newsletter

As mentioned last week our hard working Editor is taking a well earned vacation in the South of France. Consequently there is no news commentary this week. However all this weeks news is readily available, as usual, on Click here or on the Suntanning Pig to go there now.

Wouldn't it be great to have a regular summary of all the swine related articles published in the scientific journals and at conferences. Well, thanks to Merial we are able to bring you just such a service. Our new easy browse Swine Bibliography section, published approximately every quarter, summarises the latest veterinary information in the Swine Industry. Plus, in the coming weeks the browse function will be supplemented by a new search engine facility for the whole site making access to the information even easier.

Last week saw the launch of 5M's latest website This Chinese language website has been developed to enable Chinese pig producers and vets to easily access to the same high quality services our english language site provides. Managed and hosted from our recently opened office in Beijing, was launched at last weeks VIV China event in Shanghai.

The launch of at VIV China 2004

China is the world's largest pork producer and consumer. Nearly 50% of all pork in the world is now produced and consumed in China. In the year of 2000, 527 million heads of pigs were slaughtered, five times as many as in the US. A simple 5 gram increase in the Chinese per capita consumption of pork would require another 3 million pigs to be produced.
