Foot And Mouth Disease In The UK - Summary

This week it seemed like every citizen involved in the Foot-and-Mouth crises decided to simultaneously vent their fury at the UK government. CLA asked the government to justify continued use of the 20 day standstill rule, the NFU assembled their lawyers to launch legal action on behalf of the nations farmers and tens of thousands of farmers threatened to take to the streets unless the UK government took a more proportionate approach to the handling of the outbreak.

Meanwhile it was reported that a government pledge to award Welsh farming £6.5m had disappeared into thin air, but good news might have arrived just in time. Defra announce that in the low risk area all foot and mouth related controls on livestock movements and at abattoirs and markets will be removed on Wednesday
