* This Week's Feature Articles

We have 10 new features this week:

A group is the UK is bringing the supply chain together with an innovative scheme to meet the needs for transparency and fairness. Editor of ThePigSite, Jackie Linden, outlines the highlights of the new scheme, which was presented by Rob Cumine of FarmFirst at the last JSR Technical Conference.
Lower Sow Mortality in Small and Outdoor Herds
The latest NADIS BPEX Commentary by pig veterinarian, Mark White, analyses a survey of sow mortality on UK farms, and relates the rate to farm factors. The main findings, summarised by ThePigSite editor, Jackie Linden, indicate mortality rate is linked to herd size and housing type.
Marginal Fall in Animal Feed Output in Great Britain
The overall output of 9.140 million tonnes of compound feed in 2008 was just 0.5 per cent lower than the previous year but the average hides markedly different trends for the various livestock sectors, writes ThePigSite editor, Jackie Linden. There were small increases in the output of feeds for cattle and poultry but pig feed production was down by almost ten per cent compared to 2007.
Porcine Respiratory Disease Complex
Number 19 of the BPEX series Action for Productivity covers porcine respiratory disease complex. The disease is described, as well as management tips to control the complex condition.
