These are the conclusions from Eric van Heugten in an article published in the July 2009 issue of Swine News from North Carolina State University. The Rational Use of Antibiotics in Relation to Antibiotic Resistance David Burch (Octagon Services) reviews the current understanding of pharmacokinetics in pigs, the pharmacodynamic information that may be developed in clinical and university laboratories. He also describes how these can be integrated so that the use, dose and route of antibiotic and the possibilities of resistance development avoidance can also be included in the decision-making processes for antimicrobial use.
