Editorial – European Pig Producers Tackle Difficult Issues

The annual congress of the European Pig Producers (EPP) has been taking place in Lithuania's delightful capital city, Vilnius, this week. Attendance was high from EPP members across the EU, Baltic states and neighbouring countries. Many of the challenges facing the industry as a whole and in individual countries were addressed and discussed in a wide-ranging programme put together by the organising committee of the host country.

The main highlights of the Congress are outlined in our reports from the first day and second day. The EPP officers were re-elected or elected for the next three years and it was announced that next year’s meeting will be hosted by Denmark.

In the short time since our last newsletter, McDonald's has announced that is will source all of its pig meat in the US from farms that house sows in groups from 2022.

There will be a public holiday in the UK next week so your next newsletter will be sent out on 11 June.

Three members of the 5M Publishing editorial team will be attending the World Pork Expo in Des Moines, Iowa, next week. There will be no booth for ThePigSite this year but if you would like to contact senior editor, Jackie Linden, please call +447890202346 or email jackie.linden@5mpublishing.com.
