(244) It has been scientifically demonstrated that reproductive performance and litter size may be depressed by up to 6% on farms where there is a lack of empathy between the stockperson and the pigs. This can be assessed by the way sows and boars approach people or withdraw. A calm atmosphere between the person and the pig, with a gentle pat here and there and a quiet voice, pays handsomely. The sow is a sociable animal, similar to the dog, a fact not always appreciated.Share This
