Botulism

(259) Botulism is rare in the domestic pig. It is caused by the toxins of Clostridium botulinum found in food decaying plants and animals.

Clinical signs

The pig becomes paralysed with flaccidity of muscles, with blindness, salivation and death.

Diagnosis

Laboratory examination for toxins.

Treatment

  • There is no treatment
Management control and prevention
  • Avoid access to rotting carcasses
