(295) In the dry sow any evidence of discharge from the vulva must be viewed with suspicion as this could be due to a potential loss of pregnancy or evidence of cystitis or pyelonephritis.

Develop a management routine to examine the vulvas of sows to identify any tacky discharge. In such cases the sow should be identified and an assessment of the pregnancy state monitored.
