Porcine Parvovirus (PPV)

See chapter 6 for further information.

(340) The clinical outcome of infection is seen at farrowing where the presence of numbers of mummified pigs of varying size indicate infection had taken place in the first third of pregnancy in a non immune animal. PPV is of no significance to the lactating sow other than the fact that colostrum contains a very high antibody content and will protect the piglet from infection for up to 5 to 6 months of age. The presence of mummified piglets however may predispose to increased stillborn pigs.
