Bovine (Porcine) Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE)

(538) BSE has been transmitted to pigs experimentally by injecting BSE cattle-brain tissue into pig brains but not by oral ingestion. No prions, which are thought to cause BSE and scrapie in cattle and sheep, have bee found in pigs and no clinical signs or lesions of a BSE-like disease has been reported.
