The Pig Journal provides an international vehicle for the publication of original reviews, research papers, general articles, clinical papers and perhaps, most important of all, reports of interesting cases often presented at the Clinical Club of the Pig Veterinary Society. These cases are extremely important as sources of information for other practitioners and this journal continues to have a strong practitioner basis.

This practitioner component is well represented in this volume by the two papers from Ben Strugnell and co-workers. One paper shows how neurological damage can result from supposed simple handling errors and also highlights the role of monitoring of welfare problems.

The other paper describes the unusual manifestations of Porcine Circovirus Associated Disease (PCVAD) amongst vaccinated grower/finisher pigs with isolation of Porcine Circovirus type 2 (PCV2) from tissues and the difficulty of separating some of the new manifestations of disease from previously recognised notifiable diseases.

In the general section, there is an interesting paper which suggests that any pig production in Turkey may eventually completely disappear because of political pressure.

In the last part of this volume of the journal there is a symposium concentrating on tail biting and docking, which is highly topical at the moment.

Abstracts of the papers can be viewed on the Pig Journal web site.
