'TALES OF THE UNEXPECTED'
A. Hughes

Abstract
The author outlines a case history, relating to a group of 700 pigs introduced onto a finishing-unit in N. Yorkshire. A variety of symptoms and unexplained deaths were manifested after a period of seven weeks. Diagnostic tests and autopsies were carried out on a progressive basis and feeding regimes analysed. In all, there was a 17% mortality in the group over 15 weeks. Histopathology and bacterial tests indicated the presence of Porcine Dermatitis Nephropathy Syndrome (PDNS), Post-weaning Multisystemic Wasting Syndrome (PMWS) and Gl?sser's Disease. Contributory stress factors were possibly involved and remedial measures suggested.
