Yorkshire Farm, UK - Mike Muirhead - Final Update, June 2002
Mike Muirhead's case history of a Yorkshire farm with PMWS and PDNS. This paper charts the course and effects of the disease on a single herd as well as highlighting the economic impact. Photographs
Clinical signs
Photos of the clinical signs that are seen generally in pigs with PMWS and PDNS. Includes skin lesions, enlarged lymph glands, wasting and dead pigs. Photos of the signs that are seen in post-mortem samples of pigs with PMWS and PDNS. Includes interstitial pneumonia, secondary bacterial infection, enlarged lymph nodes, oedema and intra cytoplasmic inclusions More Photos of the signs that are seen in post-mortem samples of pigs with PMWS and PDNS.
PMWS Research ArchivesPublished Thursday, September 01, 2005: International Conference on Animal Circoviruses and Associated Diseases, European Society for Veterinary VirologyEvidence of genetics influence on the expression of porcine circovirus disease (PCVD) in postweaning pigs. LOPEZ-SORIA S, SEGALES J, NOFRARIAS M, CALSAMIGLIA M, ESPINAL A, RAMIREZ H, MINGUEZ A, SERRANO JM, MARIN O, CALLEN A The aim of this study was to investigate whether different genetic boar lines could be associated with general and porcine circovirus disease (PCVD) associated postweaning mortality. The study took place in two similar Spanish farms, free from porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) and from Aujeszky's disease virus. The selected sows had the same genetic background, while the boars involved were from three different genetic lines. All piglets born from these sows were placed in the same nursery farm. The mortality rate was monitored from 3 weeks to 21 weeks of age. Necropsy was carried out on all pigs that died during the postweaning period so as to determine the presence of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) and thus PCVD. The results showed that genetics may have a significant effect on postweaning PCVD. Have you published information? To add please email the details |
