Irish CSO: Pig Survey June 2012
Pig numbers were up 1.4 per cent in June 2012.The total number of pigs in Ireland in June 2012 was estimated at 1,570,600. This
represents an increase of 1.4% since June 2011. See Table 1
The number of breeding pigs decreased by 6.7% while non-breeding pig numbers
increased by 2.3% in the same period. See Table 1.
A comparison of the June 2011 and June 2012 figures (see Table 1) shows that in
the breeding category the number of:
- Other Sows for breeding decreased by 18.9%.
- Sows in pig decreased by 6.6%.
EU pig population figures showed a decrease of 1.7% in December 2010 compared to December 2011.
