The agricultural input price index increased by 0.5 per cent in July 2012 compared with June 2012, according to the latest Agricultural Price Indices by the Irish Central Statistics Office.

The agricultural input price index increased by 0.5% in July 2012 compared with June 2012. The agricultural output price index decreased by 0.1% over the same period. Thus, the resulting terms of trade index decreased by 0.5% in July 2012.

The seasonally adjusted output price index in July 2012 was 1.9% higher than in June 2012.

On an annual comparison, the agricultural output price index in July 2012 was 4.4% higher than in July 2011. The agricultural input price index was up 3.1% in July 2012 compared with July 2011.

A further comparison of the July 2012 sub-indices with July 2011 shows that:

  • Potatoes (incl. seeds), poultry, cattle, eggs, cereals (incl. seeds), pigs and sheep prices increased by 155.4%, 20.6%, 14.9%, 8.8%, 6.2%, 5.5% and 0.7% respectively, while milk price decreased by 15.2%.
  • Seeds, energy, feeding stuffs and fertiliser prices increased by 7.7%, 6.6%, 3.2% and 2.6% respectively.
