Guide to feed usage

Sow Feed
Annually, sows will eat 1.1 to 1.2 tonnes indoors and 1.2 to 1.3 tonnes outdoor.

Average: 1180 kg per sow per year,
therefore: 1180 kg x Number of sows = Average Breeder Feed Per Year

Example
1180kg x 100 sows = 118 tonnes Breeder per year
This approximates to 2.27 tonnes per week per 100 sows

Finishing Feed
Assuming bacon production to a finished live weight of 92 kg

Ration % Usage Stage Days of Age Approx. Weight (kg) Weeks of Age Approx. Feed Usage (kg)
First creep 2 0 - 36 4 - 12 1.3 - 5 5
Second creep 4 36 - 45 12 - 18 5 - 7 10
Weaner 18 46 - 84 18 - 40 7 - 12 40
Grower 76 84 - 165 40 - 92 12 -24 170
        Total 225 kg
2.4 FCR

Example
Say 2300 bacon pigs sold/year at 95 kg
(a 100 sow unit doing 23 pigs per sow per year - 44 pigs per week)
Then:
Feed Type   Approx. Tonnes Tonnes per Week
First creep 5 kg x 2300 11.5 0.2
Second creep 10 kg x 2300 23 0.5
Weaner 40 kg x 2300 92 1.8
Grower 170 kg x 2300 391 7.5
Total finishing feed   517.5 10.0
Total breeder feed   118 2.3
Total Feed   635.5 12.3

Obtain figures from the farm for monthly purchases, add together and find ratios, and compare with above.
