Titan Pork Partners scheme

UK - The Titan Pork Partners scheme aims to improve carcase yield in the most expensive cuts and ensure product consistency by using selected JSR sire and damlines.
JSR Genetics on ThePigSite.com

JSR Genetics have created a 'tailor made' index and a set of selection criteria to apply to their Titan terminal sire to meet the requirements of Geo Adams. The result is the exclusively selected 'Adams Titan'.

To be eligible for the scheme a producer must produce a cross between an Adams Titan and a Genepacker 90.

A bonus will be paid per pig based on the extra value of the Adams Titan carcase when compared to an average pig.

This value will be ascertained by butchery trials, but is currently set at a 60p per pig premium returned to the producer until the scheme is underway. However, preliminary trials suggest the Titan is worth considerably more than the factory average. The extra value of the Adams Titan will therefore continue to deliver a share of the benefit of the superior product to the producer.

The scheme is sure to benefit all parties involved though a commitment from Geo Adams to share the added value of this exceptional boar with both producer partners and the genetic providers.

Additional Notes

The Titan is a white, halothane negative, primarily Pietrain-derived line developed by JSR Genetics to maximise meat yield and AutoFOM payments.

The Genepacker 90 is an F1 parent gilt produced by crossing the JSR damline Landrace with the JSR damline Large White

Titan Pork Partners Scheme: Geo Adams & Sons Ltd

Geo Adams is a vertically-integrated business, founded in Spalding in 1910 by George Adams. It remains a family business with turnover for the whole group in excess of £200 million and supplies most of the major multiples and convenience sector with chilled "food on the move" products as well as sausages.

All Geo Adams pork products, fresh and processed, are manufactured wholly from British pigs slaughtered at the company's Meat Plant.

Following the multi-million pound extension in 2002/2003 the abattoir has a current slaughter capacity of approximately 14,500 pigs per week but has the potential to increase to 20,000.

Other recent investments at the Meat Plant include the installation of the first robotic carcase splitter in the UK and a fully automated carcase cutting line. The Geo Adams Meat Plant is the most modern and efficient pig slaughtering facility in the UK.

In 2002 Geo Adams & Sons Ltd were the first UK abattoir to install the Danish AutoFOM carcase grading system (supported by the England Rural Development Program, DEFRA and the European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund).

As well as the forthcoming Titan Pork Partner scheme Geo Adams & Sons Ltd already operate a vertically integrated pork supply chain called LincPork. Launched in 2000, this scheme currently supplies in excess of 3,000 pigs per week to the Meat Plant and is based on PIC genetics.

The LincPork scheme is tied in with the retailer Budgens and is the source of all their fresh pork.
