Danish Slaughterings Will Continue To Fall

National Pig Association THE VOICE OF THE UK PIG INDUSTRY NPA is active on members' behalf in Brussels & Whitehall, and with processors, supermarkets & caterers - fighting for the growth and pros-perity of the UK pig industry.

Production levels and prices this year are estimated to be comparable to last year's levels. Environmental constraints in Denmark and cheaper labour in Germany will see a continued reduction in Danish slaughterings.

More live piglets are being sent to Germany by producers seeking to escape Denmark's chronically low pig prices. Meanwhile Germany forecasts a 2.2 percent improvement in sow productivity this year and an estimated increase of live pig imports of 5.8 percent.

German farmers are investing in more fattening units and abattoirs are increasing slaughter capacity, especially in the eastern part of the country.
