But half of the shipment of six tonnes of meat – presented as six pallets of cooked ham products – has been traced and recovered. Tracing of the shipment is expected to be completed next week.

That three tonnes of meat included only 40kg of the raw pork, which had been minced and re-shaped with seasonings into "cutlets", and a spokeswoman for Biosecurity New Zealand said today it was possible the raw pork in the rest of the shipment made up a similarly small proportion of the total meat.

Raw meat imports from Korea are prohibited, but at present, there was no documentation available to show exactly how much of the six tonnes was raw pork, she said.

The cooked pork in the same consignment was also being investigated, as it may have been incorrectly labelled and cleared, but Biosecurity New Zealand incursion response manager David Hayes said it posed a significantly lower risk than the raw pork cutlets.
