Print This Page Schools sell table scraps to pig farmers
US - Scott County schools will start using a program to recycle food waste by giving it to local farmers.The table scraps are currently thrown out as refuse, but as part of Scott County’s program they will be brought to local farms to be used as food for pigs.
The environmental coordinator for the Scott County School District says the program will help save money and be more environmentally friendly.
“We throw a lot of stuff in that trash in that dumpster and we want to reduce it,” says Jim Hughes. “We’re going to save on dumpster space, reduce our dumpster size and save money.”
