THE VOICE OF THE UK PIG INDUSTRY

NPA is active on members' behalf in Brussels & Whitehall, and with processors, supermarkets & caterers - fighting for the growth and pros-perity of the UK pig industry.

Recently in Norfolk poisoned rats were eaten by two buzzards which subsequently died. The employer of the game-keeper who laid the bait – and who subsequently failed to search for any dead rats and dispose of them safely – was fined £2,000 with £400 costs.

The case highlights the legal duty of employers to train their employees in safe rodenticide practices, to prevent poisoning of non-target species. Training in the use of rodenticides is available from the British Pest Control Association, www.bpca.org.uk.
