Alert vs. virus in pigs raised

PHILIPPINES - Bio-security measures at the farm level are being strengthened in Negros Occidental in view of the outbreak of the corona virus in pigs reported in Luzon, Gov. Joseph Maraņon said yesterday.

An advisory has been issued by Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena on stricter security measures at the farm level, and on enforcement of all quarantine laws, rules and regulations at all sea and air entry points into Negros Occidental. The advisory states that the entry of live hogs, meat and by-products from Luzon into Negros Occidental is barred.

Persons entering Negros Occidental must also be made to step on the foot baths at ports of entry, and foot baths should also be provided at farms, Decena said.

High risk individuals coming from Luzon or infected areas should also not go directly to a hog farm for a minimum of seven days as a precautionary measure, he said.
