Search For A Super Sausage Sarnie
UK - Journalist and writer Carol Thatcher is a banger lover and proud of it and is spearheading this year's British Sausage Week. As part of the week from 30 October to 5 November, she will be searching for Britain's supreme sausage sarnie.
British Sausage Week is in its ninth year and is firmly embedded in popular culture. It is organised by the British Sausage Appreciation Society to celebrate the diversity of the great British banger. In the search for the Supreme Sausage Sarnie, amateur cooks will be pitted against professionals, mums against farmers, chefs against butchers, city against city and region against region. Anyone can enter themselves or nominate their favourite sausage sandwich recipe.
Carol said: "I adore sausages -they are so versatile. I'm always making sausage sarnies for a quick pick me up with a dollop of Ketchup and a hint of Tabasco."
Britain is a nation of sausage lovers, with last year's sales of sausages now standing at more than £500m and the humble banger has been voted the country's favourite in-home meal. Support for British Sausage Week continues to grow every year, with thousands of people getting involved in activities across the UK.
Independent butchers across the country will be running events and creating mouth-watering new sausages for customers to sample. Charity events and promotions in aid of Cystic Fibrosis will also take place.
