Securities launch is a swine for London Stock Exchange
28 September 2006UK - Investors will be able to take a punt on the price of pigs for the first time tomorrow, following the launch of 29 new securities on the London Stock Exchange (LSE).
Until now, institutional and retail investors have been unable to directly invest in softer commodities without taking physical delivery of them.
But following tomorrow's listing, investors will be able to put their money into 19 commodities including lean hogs, cattle, coffee, corn, cotton and sugar, wheat and 10 baskets of commodities such as livestock and energy.
The stock exchange is creating a new sector - exchange traded commodities - to manage the new securities along with existing ones in oil and gold.
