Purebred breeder committed to swine industry

He has made many changes in his 34 years in the industry, but one thing that hasn't changed is his commitment to purebred swine.

Grimm graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in animal science and then served two years in the service, one year in Vietnam as an infantry platoon sergeant.

He and Pat were married in 1972, and he worked as a hog buyer for Oscar Mayer from 1972 to 1976. In 1972 he and Pat bought their first Yorkshire gilts from Elmer and Leila Cornielson of Des Moines.

In 1976 he and Pat moved back to his hometown of Maynard. An older elderly couple gave the Grimms the chance to farm and eventually buy their land.

"We started raising hogs and expanded from there," Grimm said.

Today their operation includes 200 Yorkshire and 50 Hampshire sows. They grow 700 acres of corn.
