Print This Page Don't do it piecemeal, says NPA
UK - At a Defra conference yesterday, Stewart Houston, chairman of BPEX and NPA, proposed a pig industry environment taskforce to deal with the broad sweep of environmental regulation descending on the pig industry.|
NPA is active on members' behalf in Brussels & Whitehall, and with processors, supermarkets & caterers - fighting for the growth and pros-perity of the UK pig industry. |
Currently, he pointed out, environmental directives from Brussels are being dealt with piecemeal, to the detriment of the pig industry.
His concept of developing a pig environment strategy – which he first put to environment minister Ian Pearson several weeks ago - was welcomed by Defra and also by Environment Agency chief executive Barbara Young.
He is keen to see a meeting of all relevant parties before Christmas.
