Opinion: Anti-meat extremists want to destroy livestock farming

US - Arizona and Florida have more in common than sunshine, spring training and snowbirds. Both are proud agricultural states and leading food producers. And both have become battle grounds for out-of-state animal rights groups opposed to raising animals for food.

Arizona and Florida are the only two states to be targeted (so far) by anti-meat extremists intent on destroying livestock farming at the ballot box, one state at a time.

The activists are pursuing their agenda through voter initiatives and unless they are stopped, they will go state to state, species by species, until livestock production is pushed outside our borders.
One day, all Americans, not just Floridians and Arizonans, could be forced to rely on Mexico and other foreign producers for meat.
I say this as a farmer who was put out of the business of raising pigs by animal rights advocates.
I'm a sixth-generation farmer living near Tallahassee, Fla. Today I grow peanuts for a living, but for many years my wife, three sons and I raised pigs, until 2002, when Farm Sanctuary and other groups from out-of-state targeted Florida with a voter initiative nearly identical to Proposition 204, which Arizonans are voting on now.
