Tourists warned of swine fever in Northern Cape

22 November 2006

SOUTH AFRICA - Holidaymakers have been asked to comply with regulations banning the movement of pork and pork products to control classical swine fever, said the Northern Cape agriculture department on Tuesday.

Provincial spokesperson Thabo Mothibi said the Northern Cape's veterinary services had taken "all possible measures" for the control of classical swine fever.

"To date 1 500kg of pork entering the province from the Eastern Cape was confiscated," he said.
