Print This Page Tourists warned of swine fever in Northern Cape
SOUTH AFRICA - Holidaymakers have been asked to comply with regulations banning the movement of pork and pork products to control classical swine fever, said the Northern Cape agriculture department on Tuesday.Provincial spokesperson Thabo Mothibi said the Northern Cape's veterinary services had taken "all possible measures" for the control of classical swine fever.
"The province has a checkpoint just outside Middelburg to block off the Noupoort and Hanover roads going into the Eastern Cape." Mothibi said every vehicle that left the Eastern Cape through this checkpoint would be searched for pork and pork products.
"To date 1 500kg of pork entering the province from the Eastern Cape was confiscated," he said.
