Demand For Whey Increasing

Food companies can add whey protein to school meals, for example, to bring them up to the required protein level.
Further, new research in the journal Food Research International suggests that modification of whey protein concentrates with high phospholipid proportions could turn standard emulsifiers into functional health promoting ingredients.
And a recent survey by a Danish consultancy showed food makers are increasingly viewing whey and lactose products as an ideal means of achieving added value.
Russian pig herd expands
The Russian pig breeding herd has risen about 6 percent between January and September, says agricultural minister Alexei Gordeyev. He claimed major pig breeding farms had increased production by 12.5 percent. Russia is a significant importer of pork, therefore continued improvement in self-sufficiency will impact on global markets.
