THE VOICE OF THE UK PIG INDUSTRY

NPA is active on members' behalf in Brussels & Whitehall, and with processors, supermarkets & caterers - fighting for the growth and pros-perity of the UK pig industry.

If it decides to lower IPPC thresholds it could spell the beginning of the end for many family pig farms in Britain.

Pig and poultry producers knew it was on the cards, and now it looks as if the day may be drawing closer. A Dutch university has been asked to investigate lowering the IPPC thresholds for pig and poultry farms. It will also consider setting a threshold for cattle farming.

The key issue for the university to consider is: Will reducing thresholds significantly lower ammonia emissions?

(The answer is probably, Yes. IPPC is an effective tool for lowering emissions, because it is forcing pig herds in Britain to downsize.)
