GERMANY - For the first time in 20 years, pigs outnumber people in the state of Lower Saxony, the pig capital of pork-loving Germany. The state farmers' association said Thursday that, as of the end of 2006, the number of swine hit 8.02 million, as good prices led to increased herd numbers.
At the same time, the state's population fell to 7.996 million, after peaking over the 8 million mark in 2004.
